The Mantra of Adversity

In our Torah portion, the children of Israel tire of the manna. It was perfect food; Jewish tradition maintains it could taste like anything you wanted. Once the people began to complain, they no longer wanted the manna: What was once perfect became abhorrent to them. This is why wisdom literature spends so much time warning us about the weight of our words.
