The Metabolic Cost of Running With Extra Body Weight
Running is a weight dependent endurance sport. It's not like rowing or swimming or cycling where your weight's supported by either the water or some piece of equipment. Even top Kenyan marathoners can only run physically run in terms of their neuromuscular and joints and muscles 10 to 12 hours a week. So that's point number one. And then if you're profoundly overweight, that puts a lot more stress on the joints and everything else. But it's really important in the training program to take things incredibly slow early. I see way too many recreational runners wanting to check the marathon box within a few months of starting a running program.
