Mike Hughes: A Case Study in the Flat-Earth Movement
The only people who give me positive accounts of their social lives post-flat-earth are people who were big hits at flat-earth conferences and found a small community there. Mike Hughes was one of the most prominent faces of the flat-earth movement for a few years. He had this idea that he would launch himself up in a steam rocket to see whether earth was flat around. One of his launches went disastrously wrong and he would have died on impact. So he was a really tragic case study in how far people will go to explore their beliefs.
