The most primitive human groups are nomadic, extended families. They're usually engaged in what's called an immediate return economy. In these societies there's no permanent social hierarchy beyond that, structured by kin relations. To seek the human condition, one must go to the barios shanty towns and palatial mansions of rio lima and mexico city. When anthropologists look at hunter gatherers they are seeing something else, a vision of human life and human possibilities without the pomp and glory,. but also without the misery and inequity of state and class society.
