He received his B.S. in Agronomy and M.S. in Animal Science from the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco in Brazil and his Ph.D. in Agronomy from the University of Florida. His work focuses on sustainable grazing systems that reduce farm inputs while maintaining productivity.
