The miners had already captured half of the mountain ridge that was blocking their way, and they were preparing to storm down into logan and mingo counties. A coal operator there in logantown called a congressman that he knew personally and told him that unless troops were sent by midnight that night, the town of logan was going to be attacked by an army of thousands of miners. The soldiers arrived, coming up behind chaffin's forces on the blair mountain ridge, told hem all to go home. When the miners first saw the soldiers again, many of tem were pleased.
