The Importance of Anti-Tacacardia Pacing
ICDs can deliver a shock, which basically resets the heart's electrical system. Most ICDs are programmed to try something else first called anti-tacardia pacing or ATP. The only way to potentially terminate that without a shock is to pace faster than that tacacardia. But if ATP pacing doesn't work, it will deliver a shock. It's a big sudden jolt in the chest.
