Mussolini said he was going to oust this Christian king and replace him with a Muslim Islamic state. He promised to impose Sharia law, right? And so that made him popular. For me, colonialism is European liberal states expanding liberal governance to Africa. Mussolini's colony was really just an Islam-o-fascist outpost.
