The Dei Treadmill of Inclusion and Belonging

Celebrating diversity is important but because it tends to occur without the study of power, this celebration usually reinforces structural inequality by obscuring unequal power between groups. This allows us to appear as though we are progressive and racially inclusive without actually addressing oppression. Belonging is vital to having a thriving and engaged populace which informs distributive and restorative decision-making. Critical inclusion is thus the justification for the exclusion of dissident perspectives. Even ones that aren't positive, enthusiastic, assent.
