The time of year makes a huge difference in so many aspects. I like to do workouts that are still super threshold and are still going to get your VO2 Max up, but that are going to be a little bit less demanding. A lot of the over-under workouts we have, the rook intervals, once you get pretty free they're really good for race specificity.
