An hour is way too short for carbohydrate to have any effect so I expected to see no difference at all but we did see a significant performance benefit with the carbohydrate intake. The subjects couldn't tell whether they were getting the placebo or the carbohydrate drink so it could that couldn't be the problem. There had to be some something else maybe there was not enough fuel in there to really make a difference. In the next study we investigated that a little bit more and when we infused glucose directly into the blood we observed that whatever we infused in there was utilized very quickly.
