Building a Platform With Network Effects

I love this question and it gives me a chance to jump up on a soapbox. Many of them are incumbents, so firms that have existing businesses and sort of more linear value chain business models that are interested in becoming platforms. And then what I'll often see is they're not ready for that. The reason is that the technology can't support it,. So you end up starting with some of those organizations to say, hey, how about just building a really good product or service?
