Impact of partisanship on technology policy
The rapid technological advancements have sparked debates on society, with initial critiques focusing elsewhere rather than on the potential cataclysmic impacts of technology. In the past, tech policy discussions were less partisan, allowing for a greater focus on policy implications rather than cultural divides. However, the current entrenched partisanship in politics is leading to tech policy becoming increasingly polarized. This growing bipartisan cynicism towards technology may result in poor outcomes as parties might agree on foolish decisions. Moreover, there is a concern that regulatory interventions, particularly at the state level, may become highly politicized.
