Suffering with Hope vs. Hopeless Suffering
Suffering with hope brings growth and joy as one endures it in anticipation of a positive outcome, like working out at the gym. In contrast, hopeless suffering, like the pain of arthritis, is an entirely different experience, being unbearable and unmatched. The sufferings of our Lord are deemed to be incomparable, akin to enduring a toothache patiently, a critical aspect in ancient philosophy to avoid distraction from truth. Philosophy argues that one must be able to endure pain to think clearly and do philosophy effectively.
