NOTE

Navigating Modern Relationships in a Transactional World

Escapism is prevalent in modern society, often overshadowing moral realism and leading individuals to avoid confronting their existential limitations. In an age dominated by late capitalism and social media, genuine human connections are frequently sacrificed for transactional relationships. Initial encounters are often shadowed by a primal need to identify social dynamics, where individuals assess potential allies or adversaries based on superficial visual and verbal cues. This tribal instinct has been exacerbated by a culture that encourages networking over authentic rapport. Technology, originally intended to foster connections, has devolved into tools that exploit consumerism, diminishing sincere interaction as individuals inundate one another with ads and promotions. The pursuit of material ownership does not equate to happiness; rather, a satisfying quality of relationships, autonomy, and agency are the fundamental contributors to well-being. As Veblen and Nietzsche suggested, the current obsession with conspicuous consumption distracts from deeper, more fulfilling life pursuits, as individuals remain trapped in a cycle of fleeting desires.
