The Early History of Hamas and Its Ideological Origins

Hamas, the Islamist resistance organization, was founded in 1987 during the Palestinian uprising. The founders believed that at that time, an organization rooted in Islamic values was necessary to continue the struggle. Prior to this, the Muslim Brotherhood, with its focus on Islamization, had been active in Palestine since before Israel's formation. They believed that creating a virtuous and moral Palestinian society would lead to liberation.
