NOTE

Pattern of Mercy: Rest and Fasting as Divine Examples

God and Jesus exemplify behaviors not out of necessity but to guide and instruct humanity. God's pattern of resting on the seventh day serves as a model for finite beings who require rest, despite His infinite nature being free of weariness. Similarly, Jesus’ forty days of fasting in the wilderness is not for His own mortification but rather to provide an example for humans who struggle with sin and temptation. The emphasis lies in the compassionate approach of divine figures, who condescend to humanity's level to impart wisdom and understanding. Just as a parent lowers themselves to communicate with a child, these patterns demonstrate mercy and a profound understanding of human nature, encouraging individuals to gain mastery over their desires and passions, which, if uncontrolled, can lead to greater struggles as one matures.
