Is religion good or bad for society? Ben Shapiro v Alex O'Connor The Big Conversation – Episode 7 | Season 5

Unbelievable?

NOTE

The Challenge of Dealing with Harmful Beliefs

The difficulty lies in dealing with individuals who hold harmful beliefs. If someone wants to kill without belief in God, legal sanctions and moral reproach can be threatened, but little else can be done. However, if the person believes God has instructed the killing, there's no recourse as no man-made law can counter the supposed divine command. This creates a dangerous mix of arbitrary human invention and absolute authority. The concept of moral absolutes universally accepted faces challenges, especially when considering whether harmful acts are more likely driven by religious devotion or self-interest. Men throughout history have killed based on both religious and non-religious motives, such as tribal self-interest.
