The Good Shepherd Knows That Good Stuff is In Hard Places
Jesus is considered the good shepherd because he understands that valuable experiences and growth can be found in difficult situations. In Psalm 23, it is emphasized that even in the valley of darkness, one should not fear evil as the shepherd provides comfort. The analogy of being shepherded positions the individual as a sheep following its guide. The shepherd leads the sheep into valleys intentionally because they know that some of the best food and purest water are found there. C.S. Lewis' experience highlights the importance of learning from pain and adversity, as he wrote one book from a mountaintop perspective and another from the valley, after his wife's battle with cancer. Sometimes, challenges are a result of our actions, while other times, they are a necessary part of following the shepherd, leading to growth and valuable lessons. When facing hardships, it may be tough, but these experiences often contain essential growth opportunities that are appreciated afterward.
