Various biological switches mark the transition into adulthood, such as becoming self-sufficient, finding a job, building a community, and starting a family. These milestones fundamentally change a person. Not experiencing parenthood can lead to feelings of emptiness and regret, especially for men in their later years who chose to forgo having children and a family. This can result in a profound sense of purposelessness and solitude in their older age.
