Elevated Triglycerides: Valuable Indicator of Risk
Individuals who have low HDL cholesterol often have high levels of triglycerides, which indicates elevated levels of other atherogenic lipoproteins. This can lead to the remodeling of LDL into smaller, denser particles. While triglyceride levels are valuable for assessing cardiovascular risk, they are not independently causal. Adjusting for non-HDL cholesterol reveals another explanation for the association between triglycerides and risk.
