Prioritize Overall Health Over Glucose Alone

In diabetes management, reducing glucose to non-diabetic levels does not guarantee prevention of cardiovascular disease or related complications, highlighting that glucose might not matter as much as commonly perceived. Individuals with normal glycemia, indicated by an A1c under 5.7, should focus more on managing blood pressure and cholesterol, which significantly contribute to premature death. Continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) can shift attention to glucose spikes, often leading to the unnecessary avoidance of beneficial foods like fruits and potassium-rich items that support blood pressure regulation. This tendency might discourage healthy eating practices, suggesting that CGMs may not be useful for monitoring glucose spikes in those with normal glucose levels, as current evidence does not indicate that these spikes pose significant risks when A1c is maintained at healthy levels.
