On January 2nd, Senator Mitt Romney received a text warning about the potential danger on January 6th. Concerned for his safety and the security of the Capitol, he reached out to Mitch McConnell, who never responded. When the insurrectionists breached the Capitol, Romney was urged to go to his hideaway. As he was running towards it, a Capitol Police officer told him to turn back. Romney returned to the chamber just in time for the chaos and confronted Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz, blaming them for the situation.
