Middle School and design for unique Developmental Needs

Middle school is perceived as terrible, but in reality, it is the design and structures surrounding middle schoolers that make it challenging. The structures are not supportive of the developmental needs of middle schoolers, unlike early childhood years where conditions are set just right. The brain's fastest growth periods are in early childhood and early adolescence (11 to 16 years old), yet early childhood is treated as crucial development years while middle schoolers are often blamed for their challenges. Instead of blaming middle schoolers, we should focus on understanding and supporting their unique developmental needs.
