Human beings are unreliable narrators who always have themselves starring as the hero in their particular story.
This is a result of the way that we are socialized, and our tendency to rely on memetic narratives to make sense of the world.
This can lead to incorrect beliefs being accepted as fact, and science being driven by the needs of the narrative rather than evidence.
