The longer Israel exists, the more outside views differ. Many now view Palestinian terrorism as anachronistic and pointless, similar to how we view 17th and 18th century attacks by Native Americans against European settlers. In the 50s and 60s, both sides could justify their actions as self-defense or revenge. However, Israeli leaders believed they had to act ruthlessly to ensure a better future for their children, even if it meant ignoring moral advice or the laws of war.
