The United States had the advantage of its vast industrial capacity and resources during the Manhattan Project, which combined scientific and industrial efforts. Los Alamos was important, but facilities in Chicago, Tennessee, California, and New York also played a role. Germany and Japan were much smaller in comparison to the US. General Groves, crucial to the project's industrial success, famously bought over 1200 pounds of uranium in just 24 hours of being put in charge.
