Episode 56: James Rosone - Crafting Successful Series

First Draft Friday: Conversations about author craft

NOTE

Strong Beginning and Compelling Endings

The opening chapter of a book must be strong to grab the readers' attention, as it sets the tone for the entire series. Weak opening chapters are not acceptable in the first book, while they can be tolerated in later books. The ending paragraphs of each chapter need to be compelling to encourage the reader to continue reading, creating a cycle of pulling the reader in at the start and compelling them to turn the page at the end.
