Tyranny is bad because of the Tyrant. The Freedom of Restriction
The problem with tyranny is the corruptibility of human beings. If there were a being who genuinely knew you better than yourself, wanted the best for you, and knew how to get the best for you, it would be irrational not to follow their advice. This should not be described as tyranny, but rather genuine enlightened advice. Religious law is like proper instruction in golf, where following the law leads to improvement and freedom. Restricting behavior can lead to more freedom and enablement. Attachments make us unfree, but when we let go of distractions, a realm of objective value opens up. Christopher Hitchens' description of the tyrant is not about punishment, but about doing what is right for personal growth and enabling a whole new world to open up.
