Sociopathy is characterized by not caring and lacking a connection with the ideas of right and wrong, which are key features. Although sociopathy and psychopathy have been grouped under anti-social personality disorder, sociopathy is now known as secondary psychopathy. The primary difference lies in emotional development: primary psychopaths have brain abnormalities preventing them from learning complex emotions like love and empathy, whereas secondary psychopaths can learn these social emotions differently. The distinction is crucial as treatment can benefit secondary psychopaths but not primary psychopaths.
