Neurosymbolic Approach and Verb Conjugation Analysis
The neurosymbolic approach suggests that humans form massively parallel associations and also have the ability to reason with propositions and apply rules. An analysis of how humans conjugate verbs showed that while humans can form associations based on familiar words, when faced with unfamiliar words, humans can apply rules like adding the suffix 'ed.' This ability to apply rules distinguishes human cognition from early neural network models, which struggled with unfamiliar words. Current large language models are now able to pass this test, unlike earlier generations.
