The Judge Is Bound by Fairness and Justice
The illustration of a judge taking the place of a person in bearing sin and blame can ring false in our ears because the judge in our system is not the offended party but an administrator of a larger system. A judge is expected to recuse themselves if personally involved in a case because they represent the law, state, or court, not a personal stake. In our system, a judge does not have the right to step down from the bench and pay the penalty as it would be unjust; they are obligated to be fair, just, and adhere to the laws of the land.
