i would say there's a sort of weak liberal senturist perspective, which usually thinks that this breakdown of those democratic institutions and what i call democratic efficacy, has happened quite recently. And i think that is a completely useless historical perspective. It's quite clear that breakdown really happened in the seventies, and that the whole period since the seventies has really seen the implementation of political projects that never had the kind of man from the broader public that the ones that preceded them did.
