Testing Consciousness in Simulated Realities and Language Models
The ability to determine consciousness in simulated entities or language models is a complex issue. Even if entities behave like us, it does not necessarily prove consciousness. Language models, though not yet indistinguishable from humans, challenge the traditional Turing test. This raises questions about presumptions of consciousness and the effectiveness of current tests for determining consciousness, leaving us in a state of confusion about the issue.
