The Uncertainty in Bayesianism and its underlying Theory of Evidence
The Bayesian approach to evidence update is unclear and selective. It seems to rely on an underlying theory of what is considered evidence for and against, without explicitly stating this theory. This highlights the relevance of the idea that all observations are theory-laden. Bayesianism adds a mathematical apparatus on top of common sense critical rationalism, which is seen as unnecessary and distracting. In contrast, critical rationalism emphasizes that the idea that survives criticism is the one left standing. Bayesians compress multiple ideas into a single probability number, losing the actual information and content. This compression makes it difficult to compare ideas and leads to a loss of precision. Numerical representations in Bayesianism may seem like knowledge, but they come at the expense of the rich thoughts, ideas, and arguments of individuals.
