New Books in Psychoanalysis

NOTE

Facilitating New Formulations Through Letting Go of Previous Translations

The role of the analyst is not only to translate for the patient but to help them let go of their previous translations. By assisting the patient in detranslating matters, they can tap into their sexual unconscious drive and insight, leading to new translations and formulations. This process, guided by the analyst, allows for more open-ended and evolutionary outcomes. Adaptation in psychoanalysis does not involve changing the unconscious but rather helping the subject adapt to it, enabling the ego to coexist more comfortably with the unconscious drives and desires.
