The Benefits of Not Using an Alarm Clock

As an academic scientist, I have the flexibility to work on my own schedule without needing an alarm clock. However, there are drawbacks to this freedom. It is recommended to listen to your body and wake up naturally if possible. The feeling of grogginess upon waking up is known as sleep inertia, and it is comparable to opening a washing machine mid-cycle. Just like you wouldn't want to wear wet, soapy clothes, it is important to wait until the sleep cycle is complete before starting your day.
