"Fat Burns in the Flame of Carbohydrate" in Biochemistry

In biochemistry, there's an adage that states fat burns in the flame of carbohydrate. This means that when fat is broken down into acetyl groups, it needs oxaloacetate (OAA) to enter the TCA cycle. If OAA is lacking, carbohydrates supply it. Fat generates acetyl groups but not OAA, unlike protein which can. However, amino acids, derived from proteins, can enter the TCA cycle to generate OAA. Therefore, it would be more accurate to say that fat burns in the flame of OAA, as carbohydrate and protein can provide it.
