The eastern territories of Alexander's empire became a battleground of ambition and intrigue following his death. With the power vacuum created by the fall of prominent figures like Perdiccas, various satraps vied for control, leading to conflicts and alliances. Seleucus, initially an infantry officer, rose to prominence as the satrap of Babylon, while Python sought to expand his influence from Media into Parthia and Persis. Pacoistus, the ruler of Persis, gained loyalty by integrating with local culture and forming coalitions with fellow satraps to oppose Python's expansionist aims.
