Self-described 'AI guy' Andrej Karpathy explains why he left his executive role at Tesla to focus on technical work and AGI (artificial general intelligence). Karpathy grew Tesla's computer vision team from just two people to a large operation with a machine learning development cluster and a top-notch data annotation organization. Despite being able to handle his managerial position, he simply found more joy in the technical work and is now excited to focus on AGI.
