NOTE

Reflecting on Six Years of Global Business Coverage

Over the past six years, the focus of business coverage has shifted significantly towards the largest corporations, highlighting an increasing concentration of value among a select few. The initial approach included exploring various business stories across the globe, from environmental protests in Germany to automation in China. However, the audience's preference quickly became evident, prompting a strategy that prioritized covering only the most valuable companies, defined as those worth over $100 billion. This threshold now appears relatively modest as the technology sector continues to swell. In 2019, tech giants like Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, and Meta had a combined value of $3.4 trillion. Today, Apple alone surpasses that figure, and the overall valuation of these dominant firms has more than tripled. This rise in corporate valuation signifies a trend where the largest companies amass not only market dominance but also increasingly exclusive valuation metrics, effectively reshaping the landscape of global business reporting.
