NOTE

Exploring Purpose and its Relationship to the Aristotelian Model

Purpose is seen as a force that permeates all levels of existence, in a manner reminiscent of Aristotle's concept of the unmoved mover. Although Aristotle locates purpose in the horizontal dimension of change through time, the speaker rejects this aspect of the Aristotelian model and instead sees purpose in terms of formal causation. They appreciate that everything is being drawn towards a singular eternal entity, which encompasses purposes on all scales, from individuals to entire solar systems. The concept of purpose is described as having both vertical and horizontal dimensions, with a strong interrelatedness between the two.
