Comparing Risk Between Black Persons and Police Officers
Data from the national crime victimization survey reveals that blacks are responsible for approximately 87% of interracial violence between blacks and whites, with a black person being 33 times more likely to commit violent crimes against a white person than vice versa. Contrary to popular belief, statistics show that in 2021, a police officer was 400 times more likely to be killed by a black person than an unarmed black person was likely to be fatally shot by a police officer. Therefore, it is significantly safer to be a black person in encounters with police officers than it is to be a police officer in encounters with black persons.
