The Effectiveness of Early Christian Community Witnesses

The earliest Christian community was remarkably effective as witnesses, unlike the present Christian church in the Western world. Second century Greek philosopher Celsus ridiculed the church's growth among lower classes, questioning their ability to convince only foolish, dishonorable, and stupid individuals. This critique was significant as spirituality commonly gained traction in the ancient world through public debate among educated elites.
