NOTE

The Political System as an Industry

The political system functions more like a traditional industry than a public institution, with the two major parties and their allies forming an industry called the political industrial complex. This system is not broken but doing what it is designed to do, which is self-sustaining, self-dealing, and self-centered. The parties have divided the industry, capturing other actors like media, consultants, lobbyists, candidates, and policies onto two sides. Over time, the system has been optimized for the benefit of the private gain-seeking organizations within the political industrial complex, making it difficult for non-aligned entities to participate.
