Many people used to think that religion, particularly Christianity, was a problem. However, they have come to realize that humans are inherently religious and that there are benefits to having a long-standing, well-behaved religious system. When religion is replaced with newly invented political ideologies, it can lead to extreme violence and mass death, as seen with the Nazis and Stalin. While religion has its faults, it is better than the alternative that has filled the gap on the left side of the political spectrum. Overall, the point being made is valid, although there is some concern about relying too heavily on zealotry.
