The idea of being completely off the grid and self-sufficient is unrealistic in today's society. Even those who claim to be off the grid and independent are not truly disconnected, as they still rely on various services and products provided by others. In reality, being truly self-sufficient would consume all of one's time in gathering and preparing food. The luxury of modern living is made possible by the interdependence and division of labor in society.
