Nature's Succession Process

In a natural succession process after a disturbance like a landslide or clear cut, the ecosystem goes through a beautiful progression. Initially, weed species with annual plants quickly spread out to prevent nutrient loss. They produce seeds that spread to the next area needing healing. Following them, shrubs and berries put down roots, provide shade, and facilitate the growth of younger seedlings. These seedlings eventually become the overstory, creating a fertile environment for the next generation to thrive.
