One of the things that Michael Jordan helped Jordan see is that every encounter he has with a fan is a very asymmetric encounter. For Jordan, it's five seconds that he'll forget about within a minute. For the fan, it's five seconds that they'll remember for the rest of their lives.
Putting in the effort for those five seconds is worth it, because the payoff is monumental for the fan.
Jordan also said that he doesn't usually cook for himself, because he's world class at one thing and that it's simple to just let someone else do it.
