Cynicism: A Blind Spot in Judgment

Despite common belief, cynics do not perform better on cognitive tests nor are they more adept at detecting deceit compared to non-cynics. Research indicates that cynicism, rather than being a rational skepticism, functions similarly to naivete. Both cynics and gullible individuals fail to engage in critical evaluation of trustworthiness, leading to flawed information processing. This overarching distrust prevents them from learning and adapting based on individual situations and evidence.
